The £4bn blind spot in manufacturing

Inefficiency quietly drains billions each year but what if the fix is already within your organisation? Your managers have a unique vantage point, yet their insights often go unheard, while top-down strategies fail to address the realities of the frontline.
The latest Feedback From the Field global research, run annually by SafetyCulture, shows that nine out of ten organisations run an improvement programme. On paper, these programmes should streamline operations, cut costs and drive profit.
In reality, studies show that 70% fail and for manufacturing in the UK and Ireland, that equates to a £4bn problem.
The research explores the why behind this massive productivity gap, examining skills gaps, prioritisation and the continued reliance on ‘tick-box exercises’. Despite the challenges, there is clear cause for optimism: 93% of survey respondents said they have ideas for improvement.
Managers aren’t just problem-solvers. They hear frontline frustrations every day, cut through the noise, and escalate ideas with real business value. That’s why many organisations see bottom-line impact when those ideas are acknowledged and implemented. In particular, managers’ ideas have driven greater efficiency in manufacturing (59%), leading the way ahead of better service in transport and logistics (47%), and increased sales in retail (38%) and hospitality (40%).
This 30-minute session reveals the research results, backed by real-world examples and debate, and is designed to leave you equipped with the data and ideas needed to turn improvement from idea to impact — fast.
